Aside from the magnificent homes in Austin Terrace, the neighborhood also features the landmark Loretto Academy. Designed by Henry C. Trost, Loretto Academy at 1300 Hardaway Street was established as a Roman Catholic girls boarding school by the Sisters of Loretto in 1922.

According to an article in “Borderlands: Sisters of Loretto have a Long Tradition in the Southwest, published in 2000,” “The school opened on September 11, 1923 with 143 students and 8 teachers.” Today, the beautiful campus and chapel continues to be a beacon of learning and beauty and a monument to educational attainment and leadership.
